Is the pressure on for small businesses this Christmas?

New research by the firm XLN Business Services suggests that the festive season will be the busiest time for small business owners – despite the difficult situation with regards to consumer spending.

Because of the tough economic climate, those who rely on themselves for work don’t have the benefit of paid leave, and could end up missing out on valuable time with their loved ones. Some of the factors that caused this, according to the survey, have been outlined as being short-staffed, and the inability to borrow funds from the bank to enhance cash flow overall.

Just a quarter of UK SMEs will be closed for the entire gap between Christmas and New Year. Meanwhile, a further third of companies will just close their doors for two days or less as to not miss out on any sales.

Many accountants are also reminding their customers that the Christmas period is the optimal time to get those self-assessment tax returns in order.
