HMRC to Introduce Single Compliance Process for SMEs

HM Revenue and Customs has announced plans to make things easier for SMEs by introducing a new Single Compliance System. It is hoped that this will produce a faster, more consistently high-quality enquiry process. It is also intended to ensure that individual enquiries are more appropriate to the cases they address.

A trial of the new system has been conducted, and concluded in March. This was said by HMRC to have produced 86% customer satisfaction, and been successful in leading to faster resolutions

The new system, is designed to foster collaboration and openness between SMEs and HMRC. There will be three approaches that can be utilised, according to the case. When possible, issues will be resolved by correspondence or telephone. Face-to-face visits will be another approach for cases that require them, and the third approach will be designed for cases that show characteristics of evasion.
